Plate Making Workshop, Saturday 9/27/25 from 5pm-8pm in Cypress Park
This 3-hour wheel-throwing workshop guides participants through the process of creating a three-piece plate set: a side plate, lunch plate, and dinner plate. Using pre-weighed clay (2, 3, and 4 lbs), participants will explore how to maintain consistent design elements—such as diameter, profile, and foot treatment—across multiple forms. The workshop also addresses surface decoration and finishing techniques that support both aesthetic cohesion and functional use.
Designed for intermediate potters who are comfortable with centering and basic wheel-throwing techniques, this session emphasizes form, proportion, and usability in everyday pottery.
– Teach techniques for throwing flat, even plate forms
– Demonstrate how to scale and shape three plate sizes from 2–4 lbs of clay
– Cover functional design considerations including drying, trimming, and surface decoration
– Emphasize consistency and intention when making sets
