Your first class will start on the first Tuesday of the month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Classes are then held on Tuesdays at that time for four sessions total.
This will be a modified class so that we are keeping within safe social distancing guidelines. There will be spacing between work stations, and no contact during the class. It will rely on visual demonstrations, and individual verbal coaching and assistance. Basic tools are provided, but a beginner kit of tools (available in our shop) is recommended. We ask all students wear a face covering or mask while on the premises, as will our instructor. We recommend you bring your own personal towel for handwashing and drying and sanitizing materials.
It is recommended that students have completed a beginners wheel throwing class and can comfortably center 2-4 lbs of clay, trim and glaze their work before taking this class.
The Intermediate Throwing Skills class is designed for students who want to explore new forms on the wheel and learn how to create larger work. Demonstrations of intermediate skills will include: centering large amounts of clay, throwing bottles, planters, plates, throwing off the hump, closed form jars, intermediate trimming and advice for using studio glaze.
Week 1: Studio Introduction and Throwing Demo: Tips and techniques for throwing larger amounts of clay.
Week 2: Throwing Demo: Three different forms using 4 lbs each. A bottle, a planter and a wide dish.
Week 3: Throwing Demo: Throwing off the hump. Trimming demo: Bottles and plates.
Week 4: Throwing Demo: Closed form jars. Slab roller instruction for making cookies. Glazing tips and advice.
